Andy's Recommendation of the week :

Grindhouse : Deathproof

Amazing movie celetrating the stuntman's art. Co written, produced and directed by Robert Rodriguez (Sin City, Once Upon a Time in Mexico) and Quentin Tarantino, this stylish and wonderfully shot movie follows the tail of Serial Killer (Kurt Russell) on a quest to find female victims to kill using his "special car".

The film's name comes from the American term used for movie theatres that played "all the exploitation genres", this movie combines all these into 90 minutes of pure, amazing enjoyment. Grindhouse is shot in 1970s style, complete with dodgy special effects and continuity errors. Also something I found very enjoyable was the stereo instead of the usual Dolby Digital 5.1.

Watch out for the wonderful Zoë Bell, playing herself in this film. 28 Year old Kiwi, Zoë, a professional Hollywood stuntwoman, provides the best scene in the movie, strapped to the top of a 1970 Dodge Charger. Zoë also appeared Kill Bill 2 and Catwoman where she made an amazing 200 feet fall.

Len's Recommendation of the week :

ENGLISH RUSSIA

“Just because something cool happens daily on 1/6 of the earths surface”

This week’s recommendation is English Russia, a sort of weekly photo-gallery cum blog which takes a humorous look at some of the more bizarre aspects of Russian life and culture. Past features have included the Sputnik cult, the blue elf sighted in a forest near Voronezh and post industrial ghost towns. As Putins Russia grows in strength and confidence this is one to watch.
